The newly opened Philharmonie de Paris at the Cité de la musique in Paris, home to the Paris Conservatoire, famous for Nodame Cantabile, opened on January 2015, 1 with an all-French program by the Orchestre de Paris.
The new 2,400-seat concert hall was designed by local Parisian Jean Nouvel, and has a sparkling silver exterior, a black interior, and an interesting design that eliminates straight lines, giving the impression of floating clouds. The hall's plan is modeled after the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, with the audience seating arranged so that they surround the stage.

The acoustic design was handled by Marshall Day Acoustics of New Zealand, and Nagata Acoustics was involved in the acoustic design as a personal advisor to designer Jean Nouvel. The final acoustic design will include both of their names, and the company will be referred to as Marshall Day Acoustics + Nagata Acoustics.1.
The program for this day was an all-French program.2The second piece, Faure's Requiem, was written a week earlier on January 2th.Charlie Hebdo attackIt is dedicated to the victims of
- HENRI DUTILLEUX: Sur le même accord, nocturne pour violon et orchestre
- GABRIEL FAURÉ: Requiem, op.48
- MAURICE RAVEL: Concerto pour piano en sol majeur 3
- THIERRY ESCAICH: Concerto for orchestra (commissioned by la Philharmonie de Paris and l'Orchestre de Paris)
- MAURICE RAVEL: Daphnis et Chloé, suite n° 2
According to Nagata Design News, the acoustics of this hall are still being adjusted, but Marshall Marcus, the former director of the Barbican Centre, explains:Ce soir nous sommes tous La Philharmonie" is very detailed, so if you are interested, please read it. I have only experienced sitting at the front of the hall, but I think the acoustics of this hall are very good, with a very modern sound, and the sounds of each performer are clearly separated, even though it is such a large hall. I am looking forward to seeing the adjustments being made.
