There is a dispute over the claim that the chorus of a song Noriyuki Makihara provided to Chemistry is very similar to a line in the “chorus” of Galaxy Express 999. While Mr. Matsumoto says that a public apology would be enough, Mr. Makihara apparently brought the matter into court as a defamation case. Noriyuki Makihara, that seems rather immature.
When the resemblance is this strong, whether Mr. Makihara knew of it while creating the work or not, it would seem reasonable for his side to offer some sort of homage. That would be the mature response. Even if Mr. Makihara created it from scratch himself, including at a subconscious level, he must have thought it was a good phrase to make it the chorus. If he then learned that a predecessor had created an almost identical phrase, it would seem reasonable for him to say something like, “Mr. Matsumoto, you said what I wanted to say 10 years ago. It is a good phrase, isn’t it?”
However, apparently there are many people defending Mr. Makihara on mixi…
As could also be seen in the recent debate that it is rude to leave a footprint without leaving a comment, perhaps it is an immature medium after all.
