Right now, Educational Television is airing the Nikikai’s production of The Magic Flute, with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. I have been happy since hearing the overture. The Kura awamori I am drinking makes me even happier.
But Akio Jissōji’s staging of The Magic Flute is incredible. It may only make sense in Japan, but Kanegon, Pigmon, and a whole cast of Ultraman monsters appear. I laughed. It was entertainment to begin with, so it has to be fun!
I think I will go see an opera, too.
