Yesterday (July 12, 2024), I gave a presentation and participated in a panel discussion at a packed FINOLAB in Otemachi.

It was a highly educational event for me as well.

In my presentation, I spoke about the state of digital ID in Japan and abroad. In particular, I discussed in detail identity and digital identity, identity management and OpenID Connect, and the challenges of OpenID Connect and the VC model, while also giving my views on the essential differences between them. As real-world examples of national digital ID systems, I explained Brazil’s Gov.br, India’s Aadhaar and UPI, MOSIP, SingPass, and the EU’s eIDAS and EU Digital Identity Framework. For Japan, I introduced the My Number Card and the Digital Agency’s new Digital Authentication App, and also touched on their technical specifications.

After the presentation came the panel discussion, followed by the networking reception. The panel discussion was thrilling, with almost no advance coordination. We discussed a variety of topics, including AI and identity. I would like to summarize these separately once I obtain the recording.

At the networking reception, I exchanged business cards and information with many people. I also picked up some useful information, which reminded me once again how good in-person events are.

Finally, I would like to close this entry by expressing my sincere gratitude to everyone who organized this event, especially Mr. Shibata of FINOLAB, Mr. Kurihara and Mr. Fujisaki of PDL, and everyone at the Embassy of Denmark, which supported the event.
