In my lecture, I talked about the situation regarding digital ID in Japan and overseas. In particular, I detailed identity and digital identity, identity management and OpenID Connect, and the challenges and VC model of OpenID Connect, and also expressed my opinion on the essential differences between them. In addition, examples of digital ID systems in various countries were explained, including Brazil's Gov.br, India's Aadhaar and UPI, MOSIP, SingPass, and the EU's eIDAS and EU Digital Identity Framework. In Japan, the My Number Card and the Digital Agency's new digital authentication app were introduced, and their technical specifications were also mentioned.
The slides are posted below. I hope they will be helpful.
0712_DIGITAL_ID_Landscape_2024After the lecture, there was a panel discussion and a social gathering. The panel discussion was thrilling with almost no pre-arrangement. Various topics were discussed, including AI and identity. I would like to summarize these separately once I get the recording.
At the social gathering, I exchanged business cards and information with many people. I also received some useful information, which made me realize that in-person events are great after all.
Finally, I would like to end this entry by expressing my deepest gratitude to everyone who planned this event, especially Mr. Shibata from FINOLAB, Mr. Kurihara and Mr. Fujisaki from PDL, and everyone at the Danish Embassy who sponsored it.
