Many people probably think that they have to buy JIS standards in order to read them, but in fact, you can view them for free from your home or office.

For example, JIS X 9252, Online Privacy Notices and Consent, can be viewed online for free. On the JIS search page provided by the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, you can search for “X9252” and view it. You do have to register as a user, though…

Let’s give it a try.

First, go to the JIS search page.

Here, enter “X9252” in the text box after JIS, then click the button to display the list.

The search results will then be displayed.

Click this JISX9252 entry.

The details screen will then appear.

Now click “PDF001 2268KB” in the PDF file field.

A login screen like this will then appear.

This is probably where many people give up, thinking, “Oh, so they do charge after all,” but don’t give up. Registration is free. Click “New User Registration” and register as a user, and you will then be able to view it.

Don’t give up—give it a try.

Once you have registered, start again from the search. When you click it,

this message will appear. When you click “OK,” a pop-up will open, but in Chrome and similar browsers, the pop-up blocker will probably prevent you from viewing it.

You will then be able to view the standard. Give it a try.
