Today was Oza’s last day at work after working for the company for four years. It was a consequence of the staff reductions. We held a farewell party and called it a “graduation ceremony.” There were various gifts, and someone gave a folding fan with a poem written on it. I did not know this, but it seems they had been composing and exchanging poems with each other. That led us to discover that another person in the same department also wrote poetry. It was unexpected.

Unfortunately, I was not feeling well, so I excused myself after the first gathering.

On the train home, I wrote an apologetic email. I worked his name into it.

On a little spring day, walking by the marsh, the sky is high.

As usual, the seasonal words are a mess, mixing winter and autumn. But after a spell of rain and cloud that made it chilly, today suddenly turned warm and sunny, so it really did feel like a little spring day. It could not be helped.

I hope that Oza’s future will continue to be bright and clear.
