Announced May 29, 2025 – A new member of the OpenID family is ready to join us!

? What’s happening?

We have exciting news from the OpenID FAPI Working Group! A new specification called FAPI 2.0 Message Signing has finally entered the approval stage to become a Final Specification ?

A “Final Specification” is, so to speak, like a diploma from the technology world. Once approved, it provides intellectual property protection to developers and will no longer change. In other words, it becomes a trustworthy “finished product”!

  • Voting announcement: July 29 (Tue)
  • Early voting begins: August 5 (Tue) ⭐️ Those who complete the review early can vote ahead of time!
  • Official voting period: August 12 (Tue) to August 19 (Tue), for 7 days

? What is FAPI 2.0 Message Signing?

Simply put, it is a technology that makes the exchange of money and important data more secure!

? It is an evolution of FAPI, which is used in open banking and open data. By adding a “digital signature” to a message, it lets you:

  • ✅ Verify whether the message is authentic
  • ✅ Know whether it has been tampered with along the way
  • ✅ Prove who sent the message

? Why is this important?

Today, billions of people use OpenID Connect, and over the past 5 years FAPI has become the de facto standard for open banking.

In other words, when you manage money in a banking app or securely share data between different services, you are benefiting from this technology!
