UK: Bus operator introduces digital ID for students
National Express West Midlands has partnered with digital ID company Yoti to start accepting digital student cards on buses. Students can download a free student ID to use as student proof on National Express buses in the West Midlands and Coventry. The new system allows:
- Faster verification of student discount tickets by revenue investigators
- Enhanced passenger experience
This will be achieved.
UK: Digital Identity and Attribute Trust Framework Update
The UK Government has pre-released the latest version of its Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework. Key updates since the beta version in June 2022 include:
- Adds new authentication roles for digital wallets and facial recognition services
- Updated comprehensiveness monitoring and data sharing mechanisms
- Enhanced user support requirements
- New rules for fairness and effectiveness of biometric authentication systems
- Preparation of participation rules for digital ID service registration

EU: European Commission adopts rules for digital identity wallets, to be implemented by end of 2026
On November 2023, 11, the European Commission adopted an important regulation on European Digital Identity (eID) wallets. The regulation provides concrete guidance for Member States to implement digital wallets by the end of 28 as part of the European Digital Identity Framework.

EU: European Commission publishes five new implementing bills related to digital wallets
On November 11th local time, an implementing bill outlining the strict legal specifications required for an EU Digital Identity Wallet was put out for public comment. Five implementing bills have already been published and adopted by the European Commission this summer, setting out the rules for the core functionality and authentication of a European Digital Identity Wallet under the European Digital Identity Framework.

Jordan: Digital ID authentication service launched for citizens abroad
IrisGuard UK has partnered with Jordan's Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship (MODEE), Jordan Post, VFS Global and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Citizens to roll out the new service.
Key features include:
- Jordanians living in the US and Canada can now access the government's digital ID service (SANAD)
- Matches the user's iris against the Jordan National Information Center's national iris database
- Currently operating in five North American cities, approximately 5 Jordanians can access government services without having to return to their home country
- Android iris scanner and integrated software provides real-time identity verification
South Korea to introduce mobile resident registration card
South Korea will introduce mobile resident registration cards in December 2024.
Key points:
- Based on the revised Resident Registration Act that will come into effect on December 2024, 12
- Available to Korean citizens aged 17 and over
- Managing resident registration information with a smartphone app
- Aiming to streamline administrative procedures
- Part of a digital ID infrastructure based on blockchain technology
The measure is seen as an important step in promoting Korea's digitalization.
