Block, Jack Dorsey’s company, has indicated that it will focus on Bitcoin mining equipment and self-custody cryptocurrency wallets. It is scaling back the development of Web5 and reducing its investment in Tidal. This is linked to the political situation, particularly Donald Trump’s election victory, which is expected to create a favorable environment for cryptocurrency. Third-quarter revenue was 5.98 billion dollars, below Wall Street’s expectations, and because growth outpaced revenue, the company plans, by the end of 2024, to reduce its workforce by up to 10%. Block does not mine Bitcoin itself, but it sells mining equipment and is developing its own mining computer; it has created a 3nm mining chip and entered into a partnership with Core Scientific. It is also strengthening its self-custody wallet called Bitkey, which integrates with Cash App and Coinbase to enable BTC transactions.
