Europe: IDnow Establishes a Qualified Trust Service Provider

IDnow has established “IDnow Trust Services AB” as a qualified trust service provider (QTSP) under EU Regulation 910/2014 (eIDAS). The new company was established in Stockholm in early 2024 as a joint venture between IDnow and ESYSCO, a systems integrator and technology provider.

The company provides qualified trust services that combine security, compliance, and convenience, including electronic signatures, timestamps, and electronic seals. Recognized as a qualified QTSP in the EU by Sweden’s supervisory authority, Post- och telestyrelsen (PTS), the company provides the following services:

  • Issuing, validating, and managing electronic certificates and timestamps
  • Obtaining supplementary information such as qualified timestamps
  • Retaining identity verification data
  • Managing certificate revocation as a certification authority (CA)

One particularly notable feature is SMS-free signing. This certified feature eliminates the need for one-time password (OTP) codes and is expected to produce higher completion rates.

India: Veriff Announces New Features

Veriff has announced “FaceBlock,” a tool designed to combat synthetic identities and digital image manipulation in the fight against online fraud. By using AI to recognize and flag faces that appear across multiple profiles, it prevents the creation of fake accounts using the same image.

It has also added Aadhaar authentication for the Indian market. This allows companies in India to verify identities in compliance with KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (anti-money laundering) requirements.

Global: Google Plans a Digital Wallet for Children

Google has announced plans to offer a digital wallet for children whose parents use the Family Link app. This version of Google Wallet for children will have the following features:

  • The ability to store gift cards, event tickets, and contactless payment cards
  • Parental approval required to add each credential
  • The ability for parents to monitor payments and remove approved cards
  • No ability to store digital IDs or make online purchases
  • Authentication via a PIN or password, fingerprint, or facial recognition

This initiative is attracting attention as an effort to provide younger users with the convenience of digital payments in a safe manner.

New Zealand: Digital Identity Services Trust Framework Comes into Effect

Judith Collins KC, Minister for the Digitising Government, announced the completion of the Digital Identity Services Trust Framework. The framework’s main features are as follows:

  • Improved safety and security for online and in-person transactions
  • Enabling digital transactions while protecting privacy
  • Supporting everyday tasks such as accessing government services, verifying one’s identity at a bank, and obtaining credentials

The framework, which came into effect on November 8, 2024, has the following important characteristics:

  • No central database is created
  • Users are not tracked
  • Data sharing between organizations is not permitted
  • Information in accredited digital wallets is encrypted
  • User consent is always required before data is shared
  • Digital credentials remain under the user’s control, and issuers cannot monitor their use

Australia: Commonwealth Bank to Pilot a New Identity Verification Method

Commonwealth Bank has announced that it will participate in a government pilot program for a new identity verification method designed to prevent harm from data breaches.

Bill Shorten, Minister for Government Services, suggested at the Tech Council’s National Summit that introducing verifiable credentials stored in digital wallets could eliminate the need for companies to retain large amounts of personal data.

Services Australia, led by Shorten, is currently conducting a proof-of-concept trial of these verifiable credentials.

This initiative is attracting attention as an important step toward strengthening personal data protection and making digital authentication more efficient.
