At the 25th Shirahama Symposium on Cybercrime, themed “Now Is the Time to Consider ‘Trust’ in Cyberspace: Cloud Security and Zero Trust Networks,” I will give a presentation entitled “Building Trust in the Post-Coronavirus Era” (May 21, 2021, 13:55–14:35). Immediately afterward, I will join Shoji Kono of Microsoft Japan Co., Ltd. and Mitsuhiko Maruyama of PwC Consulting LLC for a panel discussion entitled “Security in an Age Without Trust,” moderated by Professor Tetsutaro Uehara.

Building Trust in the Post-Coronavirus Era

The novel coronavirus pandemic forced many people, whether they liked it or not, to shift the center of their lives onto the Internet.
It was a forced migration to the cyber continent, the Eighth Continent. As a result, problems with conventional forms of “trust” based on past customs came to the surface.
This session will introduce the major issues among these challenges and consider how they might best be solved, drawing on developments abroad and in standardization.
