The mascot character for the Social Security and Tax Number System (My Number System) was selected on May 30. Here it is.
In addition to appearing on posters and websites, it can apparently be used by private companies upon request. That naturally makes you wonder about its name, doesn’t it? What could it be…? As you have probably already realized… it does not yet have a name. The name of this little rabbit will apparently be solicited from the public in the future. The My Number system will begin operation in January 2016. Numbers will be assigned to every citizen so that information concerning social security benefits, such as pensions and long-term care, and tax payments can be centrally managed. When the public competition is announced, I will provide details here. Bye! The call for nickname submissions began on June 20.
【Update】
- Nickname submissions are being accepted from 6/20 through 7/21. The application guidelines are here → http://www.cas.go.jp/jp/seisaku/bangoseido/logo/koubo.html
- Following selection within the Cabinet Office, the name is scheduled to be decided and announced around August. (6/20)
- A concern was raised that posting the logo itself here might violate the terms of use for the logo, so for now I have replaced it with a reference link. If the concern is resolved, I will post it again. (8/19)
