This Indian restaurant, on the south side of the Hilton Hotel block next to the Hotel Nikko, is a famous establishment that President Clinton also visited. I did not know that, however; I simply went in because it was crowded with people. After waiting 15 minutes while drinking Sam Adams draft beer at the bar, we were shown to a dining room with high ceilings and rows of pillars. It somehow felt reminiscent of India.

We ate the Assorted Tandoori Platter, Chicken Biryani, and garlic naan. Biryani is an Indian-style curry rice dish. It is not often seen in Japan, but it is a labor-intensive, celebratory dish suitable for serving to guests. I had enjoyed it at a hotel in Bombay before, so I ordered it without hesitation. The first bite was not spicy, but the spices gradually came through afterward.

For wine, we had a Russian River Cabernet. We ordered it by the glass; it was a modern-style wine without an overly oaky character. It was smooth, with a blueberry aroma.
