A gourmet district called Kurobei Yokocho opened at Tokyo Station. That was on September 28. I went there for the first time today and drank at a standing bar called Barbar, a name that sounds like a barbershop:pint:. It has beers from around the world and local beers from across Japan. There are also 2 types of local draft beer, Black Label, and Guinness, for 4 types of draft beer. All the draft beers were good, though some bottled local beers were questionable.
The questionable local beer I encountered today was Imperial Beer from Funabashi, Chiba. It had a portrait of Heihachiro Togo, with “Marshal Togo” beside it, except it used the wrong character for marshal. That alone was questionable. Then there was the taste—or rather, the aroma. Hmm, it smelled just like an air freshener for a toilet. The ingredients included sugar in addition to malt and hops. Does adding sugar create this aroma? Taken on its own, it probably is not a bad smell, but the association is too strong.
The snacks, such as grilled raw octopus and roast pork, were good. The Fish & Chips seemed to have too much sage or rosemary, though. Even so, I stayed until closing, probably because it was comfortable. I think I will go again.
When I went up to the Chuo Line platform, a fairly large earthquake came, shaking things. The platform is on the 4th floor above ground, so it really swayed. For a moment, I thought I was drunk :hammer:
