As I also wrote on April 11, the war in Iraq is not over. The American side calls it “terrorism,” but what is happening within Iraq is, at the very least, not terrorism but an act of war.
The article “America Caught in a Trap” above takes almost the same view. Former President Bush Sr. probably held the same view.
“Even if we invaded Iraq in an attempt to capture or kill Saddam, we probably would not catch him. Forced to occupy and govern Iraq, we would become trapped in a quagmire with no exit in sight.” (A comment by former President Bush Sr. before the war began)
Why, then, did America knowingly fall into the trap? As in Vietnam, should we not conclude that this was more convenient for the military-industrial complex? Come to think of it, Vice President Johnson at the time was also extremely close to both the oil and military industries. He has even been suspected of assassinating President Kennedy, who was considering withdrawal from Vietnam. Am I the only one who sees this as overlapping with the structure of the current administration?
