Internet Identity Timeline

Since it seems like there are fewer and fewer people who know about it, I've started compiling a timeline of Internet Identity. I've included events that I personally think are important, based on my own personal opinion. • 1998: XNS Project begins

• 2000: XNS ORG established
• 2001: OpenID.net registered by David Lehn
• 2001/1: SSTC starts at OASIS (standardization of SAML).

• 2002: Mydentity, Ourdentity, Theirdentity: 2002-12-31 Doc Searls Weblog entry for 2002/12/31(http://doc.weblogs.com/2002/12/31) as a followup to DIDW, so perhaps it was featured in the Closing Keynote of DIDW in 2002?
• 2003: SAML 1.1 released
• 2004-04: WS-Security 1.0 released

• 2005-03-01: SAML 2.0 released
• 2005-10: Internet Identity Workshop #1 held
• 2006-02: WS-Security 1.1 released
• 2006-09: VRM: September 1, 2006 by Mike Vizard on a Gillmor Gang It first appeared on a podcast by Doc Searls.
• 2007-03: WS-Trust released
• 2007-12 OpenID 2.0 released, OAuth 1.0 development begins @IIW
• 2008-05 UMA 1.0 formulation begins
• 2009-05: OAuth WG starts at IETF. (By the way, it's key=value pairs at this time.)
• 2009-10: Nishitani. Sakimura: Contract Exchange draft published at IIW
• 2009-12: Personal Data Ecosystem: I'm not sure about this, but it was mentioned at the FTC's Privacy Roundtable on 2009-12-07 and is reprinted in the minutes. The moderator, Mr. MITHAL, used this term in his introduction to Richard M. • 2010-03: Work begins on OpenID Artefact Binding (later known as Connect).
• 2010-05: OAuth 2.0 draft response is now JSON-based. At the same time, OpenID AB response is also changed to JSON.
• 2012: Dr. Ann Cavoukian mentions PDE. Cavoukian, A: “Privacy by Design and the Emerging Personal Data Ecosystem” (2012) was the first. This is where Drummond Reed comes in.
• 2012-10: Standardization of OAuth FW, Bearer Token Usage (RFC6749, 6750) completed
• 2014-02: Standardization of OpenID Connect Core, Dynamic Registration, etc. completed
• 2015-05: Finalization of standardization for JWS, JWE, JWK, JWA, and JWT (RFC7515 – 7519)
• 2016-10: FAPI WG started
