The OpenID Foundation, which sets international standards for digital identity, has announced that it will launch a new certification service in the second quarter of 2026. This is a groundbreaking service that will strengthen collaboration with management organizations and certification testing bodies in addition to its current self-certification service (which already has over 4,000 successful cases). Service Points Facilitating global regulatory compliance and market competition: We aim to address regulatory requirements (digital ID policies, open data programs, etc.) in each country and region and improve market competitiveness. Providing flexible options: Users and regions will be able to choose the authentication method that best suits them, from traditional self-certification to certification by a certification body. Ensuring security and interoperability: We will ensure the benefits of security, privacy, and interoperability through specification development and open source testing. Expanding global standards: With 60 countries worldwide promoting digital ID policies and 90 countries promoting open data programs, many more are expected to adopt the OpenID Foundation's global standards.
