Japan

  • 2/2 Digital registration procedures for national qualifications; 40 more qualifications, including certified public accountants, added1
  • 2/17 Draft order partially amending the Order concerning the provision of Individual Numbers, Individual Number Cards, and Specific Personal Information, as prescribed in the Act on the Use of Numbers to Identify a Specific Individual in Administrative Procedures, and draft partial amendment to the technical standards for Individual Number Cards and related matters

United Kingdom

  • 2/26 The UK Digital Verification Services Bill has completed its consideration in the House of Lords, bringing implementation of The Digital Trust and Attributes Framework one step closer.3
  • 1/24 GOV.UK Wallet announced. Initially, users will be able to add a Veteran Card, followed by other government documents such as driving licences. Private-sector documents will not be stored. These official documents are also expected to be storable in private-sector wallets.4
  • Identity verification of company directors and persons with significant control is to be completed under new standards by 2026. This is intended to reduce money laundering and similar crimes. Implementation of the ECCT Act 2023.5

EU

  • 1/29 The European Business Wallet was announced. It aims to make B2B transactions substantially more efficient.67.
  • On 2/7, the WE BUILD Consortium was selected by the European Commission to participate in the 2 round of large-scale pilots for the EU Digital Identity Wallet.
  • 2/11 The EC selected Deutsche Telekom AG and Scytáles AB to develop an age-verification system integrated into the EUDI Wallet.8

Australia

  • 1/31 Telstra has begun activating mobile services using bank identities. By using ConnectID, separate identity documents are no longer required.10

United States

  • Attention is beginning to focus on AI agents acting on behalf of customers.
  • In response, a new identity-management concept called Customer and Agent Identity Management (CAIM) is emerging.
  • Customer and Agent Identity Management (CAIM) is a solution that integrates and optimises identity management for AI agents and human users.
  • It is designed to ensure security, transparency, and compliance as AI agents perform tasks autonomously, and is said to include the following 3 key components.
    • AgentLogin: a secure login mechanism dedicated to AI agents
    • AgentGuard: ensures strict compliance with predefined permissions and security policies
    • AgentTrace: records the authentication and actions of AI agents and creates auditable logs
  • This solution will provide an environment in which companies using AI agents can conduct business safely and efficiently.11

Ethiopia

Issuance of new biometric passports has begun. They are produced by Toppan Ethiopia, in which TOPPAN holds a 51% stake. In addition to a facial image, the chip in the passport reportedly contains fingerprint and iris information.12

Global

  • 2/24 The second public consultation on FATF Recommendation 16 has begun13. Deadline: April 18.
