Block Transfers Open-Source Decentralized Digital ID Technologies to DIF

Following the closure of its subsidiary TBD, Block announced that it will hand over the open-source components it developed for decentralized digital identity to the Decentralized Identity Foundation (DIF).

According to the announcement, the open-source repositories for decentralized identity code, including the DID method “did:dht,” Verifiable Credentials (VCs), and decentralized web nodes, will be transferred into DIF’s ecosystem.

France’s 4 major mobile operators (Bouygues Telecom, Free, Orange, and SFR) announced a joint initiative to strengthen digital ID protection and combat online fraud. The initiative is part of GSMA Open Gateway, which standardizes network-based services, and is built on CAMARA, an open-source project developed by the Linux Foundation.

The operators will introduce 2 APIs—the KYC Match API and the SIM Swap API—to improve identity verification for online businesses. Some operators will also provide Number Verification services. France has become the first country where all major operators are jointly deploying the KYC Match API.

Digital Driver’s Licenses in Apple Wallet Expand to 10 Jurisdictions

Digital driver’s licenses and state IDs in Apple Wallet have expanded to 10 U.S. jurisdictions with the addition of New Mexico and Puerto Rico. The feature is now available in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Maryland, New Mexico, Ohio, and Puerto Rico. This expansion marks the program’s progress since Arizona first launched it in March 2022.
