As previously announced on Twitter and elsewhere, we will hold a seminar as OpenID BizDay #9 titled “Does Blockchain Really Have Practical Value?” It starts at 19 o’clock at Sola City in Ochanomizu.
The speakers form an exceptionally distinguished lineup. They are Professor Juichiro Yamasaki of Kindai University, well known for his explanations of blockchain in “The FinTech Revolution”1 and elsewhere; Shinichiro Matsuo, editor of Ledger, the world’s first academic journal specializing in blockchain, who returned to Japan urgently this morning especially for this seminar and will make an extreme appearance2; and Masanori Kusunoki, Representative Director of the OpenID Foundation Japan. With due humility, I will serve as moderator representing the non-experts3.
The program will begin with Professor Yamasaki explaining blockchain from a fintech perspective so that everyone has a common baseline. Professor Matsuo will then discuss the challenges and directions for blockchain applications from the perspective of a cryptography researcher, incorporating the latest information from the United States, after which we will move into a panel discussion. APIs may come up as well.
Even though I am the moderator, I am already excited. That is unusual for me.
Tickets can be purchased through Peatix. They had sold out over the weekend, but we had the seating capacity increased and sales have resumed!
See you all in Ochanomizu!

- He will then head straight back to the United States from Haneda.
- The thought is that if I cannot understand it, probably half of the audience will not understand it either…
