From April 1, Matsushita will reportedly allow 30,000 employees to work from home 1–2 times a week.
Software development and similar work is highly compatible with working from home, so allowing developers to work from home has become more common recently. This time, however, the arrangement will also cover sales, planning, human resources, and other departments.
It appears that VPN access and PCs with cameras will be provided for communication.
Japan’s long commuting times reduce productivity, so if this type of working arrangement becomes widespread, it should move things in a positive direction.
