Social bookmarking has been a topic of conversation for a little while. In Japan, services are offered by various companies, including Livedoor. Among them, the American service Digg has received a very high valuation. I do not know why, though…

So, I thought I might try implementing social bookmarks on my own site, even though I had never touched them before, and looked for open-source software. Here is what I found:

  1. Pligg Beta
  2. SourceForge.net: Akarru Social BookMarking Engine (Blog Memes)
  3. ?ltimas publicadas // men?ame
  4. GrabTheMic: By the People, For the People

Of these, I tried installing Pligg.

The installation itself was relatively easy to complete. However, Japanese did not work. Before long, I came across an article titled “Installing Pligg Beta.” Following it and modifying the template made it display somehow.

However, this template is difficult to use. I would need to make a new template, but the documentation is a little insufficient. In addition, full-text search does not seem to work for Japanese.

So I gave up halfway through.

I will try again when the version has advanced a little further.
