That may sound grand, but Microsoft Project is probably the best-known software for creating Gantt charts and PERT diagrams.

However, it seems somewhat difficult to use because it can do too much.

In contrast, the Java-based software Gantt Project, provided under the GPL, has fewer features but is relatively intuitive and easy to use. Since its source code is available, it can also be modified. Its files are XML, so they can be edited directly as well. It can create task dependencies and Gantt charts for each user.

It can be installed locally, or tried through Java Web Start.

When you need a tool for drawing Gantt charts, it seems worth considering.
