It is really annoying.
After I applied a patch to WordPress, my homegrown comment-spam prevention feature stopped working, and I got hit badly. It takes quite a while to delete it all, too.
If only people posted comments, I could perhaps make them look at an image and enter a number. But that is not possible when trackbacks are considered. The trackback protocol is quite a difficult specification, on par with SMTP.
