In my article on the 14th, I wrote that I wondered why the Pac-Man defense was not being discussed. A few days later, it finally began to become a topic of discussion. Meanwhile, Livedoor is said to be launching an LBO against Fuji Television. Fuji Television holds many high-quality assets unrelated to its core business, so an LBO might pay for itself.
But shouldn’t the Fuji Sankei Group mount a proper defense already? Perhaps its financial adviser is at fault. Is Daiwa not up to it? In a battle like this, committing forces piecemeal is not a good idea. They should strike the main fortress all at once. They could proclaim the convergence of the internet, broadcasting, and finance, and buy Livedoor outright. There would, of course, be a discussion of whether to use Nippon Broadcasting, Pony Canyon, or Fuji Television itself to do so.
