Since Hitachi’s announcement at the beginning of the year, thin clients have been attracting attention as a countermeasure against information leaks. Today, I also received, through Keyman’s Net, an advertisement for NTT Data’s GO-Global.
The claim is that because data is not left on the client, there will be no information leaks.
😮
Of course, client disks are not the only route by which data can leak.
• Printing
• Email
• Other means of transmission
If you look at actual cases, these routes are far more common. Can thin clients prevent them?
Of course not. On the other side of the thin client are ordinary email applications, web browsers, word processors, and spreadsheets. If you attach and send such files or information, or print them out and take them away, they can be leaked in an instant.
Do not be fooled by propaganda.
We must more carefully examine the points at which information can leak and put countermeasures in place.
