昼粥膳 薬膳粥From the south exit of Kunitachi Station, walk a little along Fujimi-dori, and on the right you will see a large sign reading “Kayuya.” Downstairs from there is Kayuya, one of the few restaurants in Japan specializing in rice porridge.

They cook Koshihikari white rice porridge in a large pot and combine it with Rishiri kelp stock. There are chicken porridge, beef porridge, egg porridge, and more. Seasonal porridges, such as seven-herb porridge and cherry-blossom porridge, are also available. It is a little different from the porridge you make at home. The natural flavor soaks into your stomach. They also have a good selection of snacks to go with drinks, so finishing a night of drinking with porridge is quite pleasant. The manager, Mr. Kondo, is connected to Kondo Isami of the Shinsengumi.

The restaurant has counter and table seating, as well as a Japanese-style room. Nat always sits at the counter, eating chicken porridge while leafing through books by Sekikantei and others that are kept there.

The photo shows a winter limited-edition lunch porridge set based on medicinal porridge, ¥1,152.
