Measures to counter the declining birthrate have been called for for a long time. The lead story in this morning’s Nikkei newspaper was about this as well, and it was mentioned in New Year’s statements by business leaders. Yet few measures have actually produced results. As Keidanren Chairman Okuda says, it is of course necessary to “create a unified social security system, including an increase in the consumption tax rate, and give the public a sense of security,” but it is no easy task to give people confidence that such a policy will be maintained and that the money will not be wasted.
However, there is a simple, though extremely crude and primitive, fast-acting remedy.
Ban both contraception and abortion.
Then even teenagers will start having children left and right, and the declining birthrate will be solved in no time :hammer:
