The process for joining the OpenID Foundation (US) is a little difficult to understand, so I will explain it here.

First, go to the following page: http://openid.net/foundation/ A screen like the one below will appear. Click Join Today.

The next screen will appear. Click “Sign in” here.

You will then see a screen where you can select an IdP. If the service you want to use does not have an icon in this list, click the “OpenID” logo and enter the service name.

It looks like this. Here, I selected mixi as an example.

For reference, the Japanese providers are as follows.

  • mixi —  mixi.jp
  • Yahoo! Japan — yahoo.co.jp
  • NTT docomo – nttid.jp
  • OCN – nttid.jp
  • goo – nttid.jp
  • biglobe — biglobe.ne.jp
  • KDDI / AU — auone.jp
  • Softbank — under investigation
  • excite — excite.jp
  • (Others will be added as needed.)

Then click “Next Step,” and an authentication screen will appear. (If your session is still active, this step will be skipped.)

After authentication, you will return to the next screen. Your OpenID identifier appears under Your preferred OpenID. Select the appropriate membership category. If you are joining as an individual, select individual.

You will then be asked to enter your name and email address.

Click “Next Step,” and you will see a screen asking you to agree to the Membership Agreement.

Select the checkbox and click “Next Step” to proceed to the membership fee payment screen.

Choose your preferred payment method and complete the payment. You will then be taken to the registration confirmation screen.

Click “Complete Registration” here, and you are finished. The screen below will appear.

Thank you for your hard work!
