I applied for Mizuho Mileage Club. Something about the process bothered me a little. It has been quite some time since the Act on the Protection of Personal Information came into force, yet neither the privacy policy nor the rules on the use of personal information could be found anywhere immediately noticeable. I searched for a while but could not find them. Under the regulations of the Financial Supervisory Agency and others, they should be posted somewhere reachable in about 1 click from the top page, but…
Returning to Mizuho Mileage Club, I understand why they need an address and name: they are necessary for sending the application form. But why do they need a date of birth? I cannot immediately see why.
If they wish to be considerate toward customers, I would very much like them to clearly state, on the same form, the purpose for which each item collected will be used. This should be especially easy on the Web.
Installing tools such as Hibun is all well and good, but before that, I would also very much like them to address fundamentals like these.
