“Tsunami Fundraising” Expands at the Grassroots Level: Sumatra Earthquake

Grassroots “tsunami fundraising” for the Sumatra earthquake is expanding. In Japan, the government’s contribution has drawn attention, while private donations have received little notice. However, I believe that private donations should fundamentally be the basis for this kind of effort.

Countries with generous tax refunds probably provide an environment that makes it easier to donate. Japan, too, may have reached a time when it should give this matter a little more thought.
