Is there no privacy on the internet?

According to a report from US Frontline News:

Sun Microsystems CEO Scott McNealy says "there is no privacy for users when they're online"

That's true, but is that really the case?

In the current trend of information disclosure, it is a trend of the times for official gazettes and court minutes to be made public. This article is about the problem of privacy leaks caused by personal information being published as is in these records (for example, information on an individual's traffic violations). The same is true in Japan, where we recently reported that the addresses, names, and birth dates of Living National Treasures can be accessed on the Agency for Cultural Affairs' website. These are problems that should be able to be solved by appropriate masking.

Also, by using identifiers appropriately according to their characteristics, privacy could be strengthened much more than it is now. Am I the only one who thinks it's a bit pathetic to hear the originator of the Liberty Alliance say something like this?
