I had no idea until today, but it seems that a San Francisco hotel is in the midst of a labor dispute, with strikes and lockouts.
At the Hilton and the Westin St. Francis near Union Square, workers are on picket lines and demonstrating with loudspeakers. Many of the restaurants are closed and room service is not available. All the doors are tightly guarded by security guards so that employees cannot enter. It's an oppressive atmosphere. The hotel is empty. It's not a relaxing atmosphere at all. I'm glad I stayed at the Palo Alto. By the way, I had to show my key to get into the Westin, so I couldn't even get in. When I asked if I wanted to go to the cafe, I was told that there was a strike and all the restaurants and cafes were closed. I wonder if it's right to charge almost the usual price for this.
