One thing struck me while watching the sports day yesterday. The children's brass band was playing Sousa marches and other pieces, but the pitch was off and there was a beat between the instruments. With that much of a beat, even a child would be able to tell. If they were taught how to hear the difference in tone, wouldn't it improve a little? Or is it impossible for elementary school students? No, it can't be. The brass bands that appear in competitions have perfect pitch, and the choirs at my daughter's school are also solid.
What do you think, experts?
On a different note, I tuned my new Cimbalom this afternoon. The instrument is still new and not quite settled, so the high frequencies are quite low.
